One Month

One month ago today we received the phone call informing us that Luke had a sizable tumor in his lower right leg.  One week later we found out it was cancerous.  One week later we found out the cancer had spread beyond Luke's leg.  One week later Luke's lower right leg was removed.  It's been the hardest and worst month of our lives, hands down.

And yet, Luke is doing well.  Amazingly well.  Today, he went back to school for the first time, and it was so cool to watch him interact with his friends.  Luke will take three classes this Fall, while also undergoing chemotherapy treatments and being fitted for a prosthetic leg.  We are so proud of him.  There are literally thousands of people praying for Luke.  We are so grateful.  We do not understand our circumstances, but we get glimpses each day of God working through them.  We know that God is good.  We know that God loves Luke.  We are praying boldly for God to heal our boy.  (James 5:14-16)

Please continue to pray, encourage, and visit.  We cannot thank you enough.

God bless,
James & Lu
(for Sam, Jay & Luke)

What a month. Such hard news. Praying that the Lord would continue to reveal Himself in all of this. There aren't many smiles better than Luke's. It's so good to see it light up his face while being surrounded by friends. One day at a time! Love you guys!

Wow, I cannot help but think of Job and the succession with which all of these devastating pieces of news have occurred...your families trust in the Lord is such an incredible testimony. The thing is though, Luke is not a seasoned man of the faith. He is a teenager - a very young man. Yet the same, deep, unshakable faith pours out of him as any seasoned warrior for Christ.
Yellow is also the color chosen to remember our brother Saeed Abedini in prayer. I'm grateful that it represents you both as I pray for you and Saeed often and know that you both are 'suffering for the sake of the gospel'. You may not be in chains directly because of your faith - but never doubt the impact you have as you learn to take 'new steps' through the grace, mercy, peace, and hope given to you through the power of the gospel. Lifting you up to the Father daily kid - not one part of your suffering will be in vain. You encourage me to not look at the waves around us but on the One who allowed every drop of water to exist in the first place. We have a greater calling that no circumstance can ever change. Thanks be to God!! :::hugs:::
