Doorways

Sadness is a doorway to deeper faith.  So is fear.  Doubt too.  These emotions can be painful and very powerful, powerful enough to awaken us to the reality that we are not in control.  Pastor Craig Barnes has this to say about the sovereignty of God:

“God is often silent when we prefer that he speak and he interrupts us when we prefer that he stay silent. His ways are not our ways. To live with the sacred God of creation means that we conduct our lives with a God who does not explain himself to us. It means that we worship a God who is often mysterious - too mysterious to fit our formulas for better living. It means that God is not our best friend our secret lover or our good-luck charm. He is God."

It is through circumstances we don't prefer that my family is keenly aware of God's powerful presence.  At times we see glimpses of God's unfolding plan, but overall we lack understanding.  Still we achingly walk the path God has for us, for indeed He is God.

And we continue to pray, God heal our boy.  (James 5:14-16)

God bless,
James & Lu
(for Sam, Jay & Luke)

Hi James & Laura. Mary emailed me this week & we (John, my mom & I) began praying for Luke. As a childhood survivor, I pray Luke will join the club & be a beacon among us. The Pope just left NYC. It has been amazing to have El Papa in our city. Before he entered Central Park today, a rainbow appeared but turned upside down, a smile from God. My mother went to the Papal mass at Madison Square Garden. When she got home, she texted me...

I just got home. It was a moment of a lifetime. I'm so glad I went. I'm full of aches n pains becuz of the standing for almost 3 hours but it was worth it. I particularly remembered Luke n his family in my prayers.

Sending you all strength and praying God heal our boy.

Luke and family,

My Methodist Church in Arlington, Ohio has been praying for all of you since Dan and Julia asked for prayers. You have so many people praying for you that you don't even know. That's the great thing about prayers, it doesn't matter who is doing the praying. It's the love and concern in these prayers that will hold you and surround you with God's love.
The nicest place to be is in someone's thoughts, the safest place to be is in someone's prayers, and the very best place to be is in the hands of God.
Blessings to all of you.

Received an update from Julia this week and what an attitude you all have. And the goals that Luke has set for himself. And God is with you every step you take to achieve the music completion on three instruments and I'll wait to hear about your steps with God on your new leg. Continued prayers for the whole family..
